Between some residual bad weather and traveling for Valentine’s Day I didn’t do a whole lot in terms of training so this will be a relatively quick update!
Sunday: It would have been a beautiful day for a ride, but the sidewalks and bike lanes in Lexington were still buried under a mess of snow, slush, and ice, so I figured the trail would be too. I went for a run around campus instead (the school is better than the city at snow removal) and had a pretty good time, as far as runs go!
Monday: I decided to give the Legacy Trail a try and it didn’t go too well. Less than five miles in I gave up because all of the shady spots were coated in ice or slush. I seriously contemplated toughing it out and just sliding through the slushy parts or riding around them through the grass but decided not to tempt fate and looped around an industrial park for a bit before heading home.
I gave blood in the afternoon and almost passed out (oops). Somewhat thankfully, I have fully passed out before so I knew it was coming on and was able to lay down and get some help before it actually happened. The walk back to my apartment felt much longer than the walk there!

Tuesday: I was still feeling a little drained from giving blood (no pun intended) so I took a rest day and made some headway on data collection for my thesis.
Wednesday: After a slow morning I gave the trail another try and it was great! The weather was beautiful other than the wind on the way home.

Thursday: I actually managed to get up early and rushed through an upper body workout at the gym (thanks, travel anxiety). I safely made it to Kansas and even had a bike waiting for me (thanks, Braden!). I didn’t end up using it for an actual long ride but it was nice to have something other than a Lime scooter to get around town on.
Friday: James and I made it to the gym kinda early for leg day. The Kansas State gym has some fun things I had never seen before, like this slidey glute kick-back machine that kind of made me feel like a gazelle.

Saturday: The weather was a little gloomy so James and I had a movie marathon and hung out at a friends’ house later on.
Mileage: 36.4 miles/3 rides (two training rides and one short ride around town)
Until next week!
Lauren
You are very methodical. Your thinking is well organized. I really enjoyed your descriptions. I also liked the pictures.
I look forward to reading about your adventures. You should write a book and donate the profits to cancer.

I’d buy a copy of that book!
The pictures and the links to your workouts are a good bonus to keep us up to date. Thanks.
