Packing List: Misc.

I brought a lot of random stuff so I’ll organize this by where I kept things:

Drybags

Dry bags: Osprey ultralight dry sack (12L)

I brought one Osprey dry bag to hold a bunch of random things:

  • Extra medications
  • Camelbak cleaning kit
  • Menstrual cup
  • Ziploc bags
  • Zip ties
  • Extra hair ties
  • Pens
  • A few other random things

On Day 2 I got a taste of how little attention people paid to their things: we found a dry bag at our host and no one claimed it. I literally asked every single person on the team if it was theirs and it went unclaimed for several days until I rock-paper-scissored Casey for it and became the proud owner of another (older) Osprey dry bag. I kept my iPad, AirPods, Garmin watch, journal, and parks passport in it for the rest of the trip.

Backpack

Sunglasses: Goodr OGs, RayBan 4259 RX, & Suncloud low key polarized

One might say three pairs of sunglasses on top of my cycling glasses was overkill, but I wore them all! The Goodrs are an affordable, durable, all-around pair of glasses I can wore on and off the bike. Aside from being polarized my RayBans aren’t great for biking but my contacts are notoriously finicky, so I appreciated having these on van days when I didn’t need to wear contacts. Lastly, the Sunclouds are a nice compromise of lightweight, polarized, and stylish. I sadly left them on a tractor halfway up Tioga Pass and didn’t realize until we were too far up for me to want to turn around for them.

Clothesline: Sea to Summit Lite Line

I kept this clipped to the outside of my bag despite never using it… I tried twice and just couldn’t make it work. It’s a great idea but was too short for the two spots I tried to hang it. I did, however, use it to dry all of my packing cubes when I got home!

Small pair of binoculars

These were gifted to me so I don’t have a link. I also think I used these maybe once… but they’re fun to have.

Hammock and straps: Bear Butt double hammock

I almost didn’t bring this but I’m so glad I did! I didn’t use it super often but thoroughly enjoyed every time I did. Some of my teammates slept in their hammocks almost every time we camped, too.

Headlamp: Black Diamond Cosmo 300

A necessity for camping nights, or trying to get my sleeping pad set up after everyone else has gone to sleep (usually a director-exclusive problem haha). This one is pretty affordable and has a wide range of settings.

Headbands, including a Buff

I wore a headband almost every day of 4K. I brought two, including my signature tie-dye multi-use gaiter, and bought a Buff when we got to Utah. I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would but it did feel incredible when I put it over my head and soaked it (until it dried out, then it felt like I was suffocating).

Multi-port charging block

One of the best things I brought on the trip! I could charge my Garmin, both lights, and either my watch, phone, iPad, or Airpods with this. Very convenient, especially when outlet real estate was scarce.

Other random things
  • Antibacterial wipes
  • Tissues
  • Non-sport sunscreen
  • Extra tubes, CO2, Chamois Butt’r, etc. in a Eagle Creek Slim Cube
  • Clif bars and Liquid IV
  • First aid kit
  • Hats (brought one baseball cap and my safari hat for van/rest days, bought another baseball cap at Zion)
  • Fanny pack
  • Tote bag
  • Hair brush
  • Claw clip and hair tie
  • Ibuprofen

Duffle

  • Purse for rest days
  • Swimsuit in a, you guessed it, an Eagle Creek cube (XS)
  • Bag of extra toiletries (sunscreen, contacts, razor blades, full bottles of shampoo and conditioner to refill my travel-sized bottles). Definitely unnecessary but it saved me from having to worry about buying any of this stuff along the way
  • Laundry bags: one mesh, from Walmart, one old plastic-lined Vera Bradley bag for damp clothes
  • Power strip, an easy way to make friends on 4K haha
  • Tiger Tail muscle massaging stick
